God's Words of Wisdom from the Bible for Thursday 17 November 2011

"Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 17 November 2011"

Today's Bible Verse" Proverbs 3:5-6" Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your path."

The words trust in the Lord echo the command of Deuteronomy 6:5 to love God with all our being.  The verb "trust" is complemented by the word "lean."  Trusting in God is a conscious dependence on God, much like leaning on a tree for support.

Three commands are given in verse 6: (1) trust meaning, "rely on, depend on" (2) lean not, meaning, "do not depend on your own native instincts and (3) acknowledge Him, meaning, "have fellowship and intimacy with God in all of life.  The result of such devotion is that God will make the paths straight before you.

The basic wisdom issues touched on here in these verses and in the Book of Proverbs is to have a personal relationship with God.  Only if we know Him and respond to him will the message presented in the Book of Proverbs produce fruit.

We as Christians need to trust the Lord completely, and to always acknowledge Him in everything that we do.  We are to rely on God's Word rather than on our own human wisdom.  We are to honor God by giving generously, and we are to remember when hard times come that God loves us still and see that we have a Father who loves us deeply.

The idea here is reinforced by the command to acknowledge Him, which means to observe Him and get to know Him on the process of living.  In doing so, a person finds time and time again that God smooths out paths.

Today's Hymn: "Leaning On The Arms Of Jesus"

Leaning on the arms of Jesus, Oh it is so sweet and precious!
He will surely bless and keep us, Calmly resting from from care
Leaning on the arms of power, Jesus is my strong high tower
He's my peace, a constant shower, He will every need supply
Leaning on His arms I'm trusting, What have I to fear, I'm resting
Jesus is my constant blessing, He will all my burdens bear
Leaning, Leaning Safely on the arms of Jesus
I'm leaning, yes, leaning, Leaning on the arms of Jesus

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit may we in our daily lives always make a conscious dependence on You in everything that we need.  May we seek You in times of good and plenty as well in trails and tribulations.  May we always remember that indeed we as Your children do lean on Your arms of strength of comfort.
                                                                                                                         Amen
Today's Biblical Truth: When a person seeks wisdom, he or she finds it in the fear of the Lord and the knowledge of God."
