God's Words of Wisdom

"Greetings in the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 18 April 2013, from Cindi, a daughter of the King of kings and Lord of lords."

Today's Bible Verse: Philippians 4:6-7 "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your request be known to god; and the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Jesus Christ."

Wow!!  What great verses about God's protection for us His children.  In verse 6, "be anxious for nothing" means "don't worry about anything."  Verse 6, is one of the most memorized verses of Scripture.  It shows us that we can commit ALL of our concerns to the Lord.  We will care more deeply about those things we pray for, because we know that God hears and cares, then we can care without being anxious.

The Lord's nearness here, leads Paul to forbid his readers from worrying.  This statement by Paul, is no summons for irresponsibility, or an invitation to dismiss legitimate concerns.  The solution to undue anxiety is prayer "in everything in all matter of life."  The way to be free of "anxiety" is to be prayerful about EVERYTHING.  While God is eager to hear our requests, they should ALWAYS be accompanied with "Thanksgiving."  Thanksgiving, is to ALWAYS go along with our requests, and not be triggered only by ANSWERS to our prayers.  We Thank God because we know that He has not only heard our request, but will send what is good.  Because our prayers have been answered, even as we pray, THANKS is appropriate.

"The Peace of God" is that tranquility of mind freeing the believer from fear and worry.  "Peace which passes all understanding" means: (1) Peace divinely bestowed in times of anxiety, so wonderful that it exceeds ones ability to understand it and (2) God's Peace far surpasses ones own understanding of the problem, and our own ability to cope with and solve it.  "Shall keep" means "shall guard."  This is a military term for a sentinel standing guard duty.  Philippi, was guarded by a Roman garrison, and its citizens were accustomed to seeing soldiers protecting the city, and this word would be especially appreciated by his readers.

The "Peace of God" protects our minds from external corrupting influences and keeps it focused on God's Truth.  Also the "Peace of God" is the inner "peace" or "sustaining" confidence that God gives us when we pray with thanksgiving.  The last phrase, "with thanksgiving" is important.  Thanksgiving is an expression of assurance and reminder, that God has heard, and will answer our Prayers in accordance to his Will.

God's face is always shining upon us, beaming out "peace that transcends understanding."  We are surrounded by a sea of problems, but we are Face to face with God, who is our Peace and Comfort.  As long as we focus on God, we are safe in His Strong and Protective Arms.  If we stare too long at the problems around us, we will sink under the weight of our burdens, just as Peter sank into the waves of the storm as He was walking on water toward Jesus and he took his eyes and focus of Jesus.  When we start to sink, we like Peter need to call out to Jesus to help us, and He will lift us like Peter out of the trails and storms of our lives.

The closer we live our lives like Jesus, the safer we are in the protection of the Holy Spirit.  Life and its circumstances around us are undulating, and there are treacherous looking waves in the distance, but if we FIX our eyes on Jesus, the One who NEVER changes, we will realize that by the time that they treacherous waves reaches us, it will have shrunk to proportions of God's design.

Always remember, that Jesus is always by your side, and He promised that He would always be beside us to face today's waves.  He will stand by you today, tomorrow and all through eternity, helping us face each and every wave whether they be large or small.  The future is a phantom, seeking to spook us, but we as Christians can laugh and rejoice at the future, because Jesus holds our future, and is our future. (Thank You Jesus)
